A Message from the Holt Education Foundation Board:
The Holt Education Foundation, now beginning its 21st year, is a non-profit organization that partners with Holt Public Schools to sponsor innovative and enhanced teaching and learning projects in our classrooms through competitive mini-grants. To date, over $380,000 in grants have been awarded! In addition, the Education Foundation awards the Margaret Livensparger Scholarship annually to a high school senior who has exhibited exceptional talent in the performing arts. If you have attended any of our annual fundraising events or supported our past projects, we thank you.
Please consider sending a donation today to the Holt Education Foundation, 5780 West Holt Rd., Holt, MI 48842. As schools struggle in the current economy and with uncertain funding, your gift, regardless of size, will continue to support educational opportunities for our students. The Holt Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) Tax Exempt Organization (please consult your tax advisor for tax deduction information). Thank you again for your commitment to the students of Holt Public Schools.
For dedicated service to the district and community, each year the Holt Education Foundation honors an alumnus of Holt Public Schools, a community member, and several school employees. The Foundation is pleased to announce this year's honorees: Outstanding Alumnus Will Kangas (Class of 1989), Outstanding Community Member John Lierman, and Outstanding School Employees Tammy Butch (Dimondale/3rd grade), Jessica Cotter (Holt High School/Instructional Coach), and Dr. Johnny Scott (Superintendent)!
Honorees will be recognized at the 21st Annual Community Recognition Dinner on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at the Chisholm Hills Golf and Banquet Center. Details will be announced in February 2015, and more information will be posted here as it becomes available. We look forward to seeing you on the 18th!
The Holt Education Foundation announced the winner of its 2014 Margaret Livensparger Scholarship Award. This two-year scholarship award is given in honor of Margaret Livensparger, who, among many other things, was a founding member of the Holt Education Foundation and a proponent of the arts. The 2014 scholarship recipient is Kristi Harless. Congratulations!
The Holt Education Foundation "Prize Patrol," made up of HEF board members Pat Brown, Jeff Kegler and Superintendent Dr. Johnny Scott swept through the district on Thursday, October 30, handing out balloons and certificates to the 2014-15 mini-grant recipients. A total of almost $6,000 was awarded this year to fund classroom projects to enhance student learning throughout the district. The district would like to thank the Holt Education Foundation volunteers who work year-round to raise funds for these worthy projects (and if you attended the pre-game cookout in September, we thank you, too!).

The Education Foundation's Annual pre-game Cookout was held on Friday, September 5, 2014 prior to the home football game vs. Rockford. If you were there, you know the cookout had just ended when the stadium was evacuated due to a fast-approaching and powerful storm. Fortunately, with the help of many volunteers, the tent was speedily disassembled and most of the equipment was retrieved before it could be blown away. Those who took shelter in the high school were treated to a spectacular lightning show while waiting for the game to begin. The Holt Education Foundation would like to thank all those who lent a hand, including many Holt and Rockford students and fans. It was a night we won't soon forget! GO, RAMS!
The Education Foundation offers up to two opportunities for our high school students to practice the ACT test, usually in the fall and winter. The first workshop was held in October, and the "Last Chance" workshop was held Saturday, February 21, 2015 in the North Campus building. We are proud to say we had 99 students in attendance! We want to thank our volunteers Mark Troisi, Pat Brown, Neil Osoff and Kim Harless for their help, and IT specialist Dave Valk and Kari Hanson for their expertise.
You can be sure we will offer a workshop and practice exam again next school year, especially with the switch to the SAT test. The information/registration form will be posted HERE and copies will be available in the high school counseling offices and the North Campus admin lobby. Our schedule should be finalized by the time school begins, so be sure to check back here in the fall. Questions? Call the Superintendent's office, 694-5715.
